Frequently Asked Questions

Can anyone attend?

Absolutely! Anyone and everyone are welcome to participate and attend any of our workshops or programs.

Where do you hold your workshops?

We are a mobile business so can come to you!  Programs are run over the Sunshine Coast, Moreton Bay, North Brisbane regions.  To find out where the next one is held, or if we travel to your area, please get in touch!  Please be advised that some destinations may incur a travel fee.

Can i claim programs through NDIS?

Yes. Some programs can be claimed through NDIS funding. However, as all plans are individual to each participant,  approval must be completed and confirmed with your Support Coordinator and or Plan Manager prior to commencing.   

 I don’t have a support worker.  Is that ok?  Can I still attend?

Absolutely! While we encourage participants and support workers to attend, if you don’t have support on the day you are attending, don’t worry. You can simply let us know but we will always have extra peer mentors there at our programs.  Support workers also attend free of charge.

Can participants touch the animals?

While our animals are used to human handling and have been hand raised, some of our animals can be touched however it is up to the presenters discretion if the animal can be held by attendees on the day. This is due to minimizing any risk to the animals or participants as well as following our licensing requirements.

What qualifications do you staff have?

All staff have a Blue Card for working with children, Yellow Card and Current First Aid Certificate.  Some mentors do have a minimum Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability).  Nicci has a range of qualifications including undergraduate and postgraduate studies within Zoology, Ecology and the Environmental sector along with a range of various certificates including Fauna and Flora ID, Animal Handling and Catching, Fauna Spotter and Catcher, Wildlife Rehabilitation Permit and Venomous Snake Handling just to name a few.  Nicci has also her TAE (Training and Assessment) Accreditation,

Do you have insurance and licenses?

Yes, Happy Little Turtle holds a $20 million public liability insurance and hold a full Wildlife Demonstration license through Department of Primary Industries (DPI)

Do you attend aged care facilities?

Yes we do! We see that residents in aged care facilities get just as much out of learning and creating pieces which helps our environment and wildlife just as much as our youngest participants do. We absolutely encourage these workshops and visiting! If you would like to find out more, please get in touch.

How does the NDIS work?

 The NDIS is a national scheme which allows people with a disability access to a range of services. They NDIS provides funding to participants that have a permanent and significant disability. It provides information about services within their communities. Each NDIS plan consists of three support budgets; Core, Capacity Building and Capital. to access our workshops and programs, funding can be accessed from within the Core support, Assistance with Social and Community Participation. If you are not sure about your plan, you can discuss with your plan manager. If you are self managed, then we are happy to provide you information to assist if you're eligible to access funding from your plan.

How do I make payment?

For all workshops, payments are to be made 48 hours prior to attending.  For term workshops, a deposit is required to secure your place then full payment is required 5 days prior to commencing.  NDIS Participants, invoices will be issued the day of your completed workshops with a strict 48 hour payment term. Payments can be made either by credit card or bank transfer. Payments can also be made on the day, however these are for only last minute bookings when a place has become available.
